- Backup.
Backup up your business data daily; use DVD's, USB Keys, External HDD's if required. Keep it organised and in a safe place. Learn how to use ‘Backup and Restore’ and ‘System Restore’.
- Keep it Simple.
Don't use over complex systems to do small tasks. Ask IT Staff to explain it in "English". Try “Hosted “ or Cloud Services.
- Use what you have got.
More than 50% of “Features and Software” go un-used. Try using your Modem’s Firewall or configure inbuilt maintenance and backup systems. If you paid for it, use it.
- Anti-Virus.
Update your Anti-virus Regularly. Schedule Scans and check the results. If you have less than 10 PC's and no servers, don't pay for it.
- Passwords.
Use Different passwords on all accounts and devices, and keep a password log.
- Inventory.
Keep an inventory of all devices, licenses, software (and media) and their configuration.
- Computer Use Policy.
Let your employees know what they can and can't do, it will save time and money.
- Less is better.
